All cats deserve a happy ending.

Even if it takes years of your time, not giving up on a cat always yields fluffy fruits - purrs, affection, slow blinks, and lots of love. And it's always worth it. Winning the love of a cat, especially when the cat might be shy, reserved, or simply skittish, always feels like the sweetest thing. Because cats don't give away their trust that easily. Especially if the cat in question went through some hardships that made them shell-up - but when a cat comes out of their shell, it's like witnessing a beautiful flower blossom in the height of spring.

This one cat, adorable Babycakes, went through a lifetime of difficulties. For years, the only one who took her seriously was a next-door neighbor with full hands and a fuller house. But even these conditions never stopped her from being a safe place for Babycakes. And as mentioned, it paid off. Finally, after more than a decade in the yard, the cat trust allowed her to come inside and enjoy the indoor princess life. Sometimes, the Cat Distribution System might send you a cat who's not ready - but at some point in time, they will be. You just need to be patient.

    Unfortunately the sink had lever handles and one day Babycakes accidentally turned on the sink. She had also pressed the stopper mostly down so she ended up flooding the bathroom and the adjoining bedroom.

  • Outdoor and feral cats are impressively resourceful little survivalists, but even the toughest alley explorer benefits from a cozy upgrade. In colder months, especially, simple outdoor shelters can make a big difference in helping cats stay warm and safe.

    Cats lose body heat quickly in wet or windy conditions, and a small insulated shelter - often made from plastic storage bins, foam insulation, and straw bedding - helps trap their body heat and keep them dry (straw is important here because it repels moisture, blankets can actually freeze). Feral cat shelters also provide protection from rain, snow, and predators, giving cats a secure place to rest during the long hours they spend outside. Many animal welfare groups recommend placing shelters slightly elevated and facing away from wind for extra protection. For community cats that aren’t socialized enough to live indoors, these little shelters function like tiny winter cabins.

    They may not come with room service, but they can significantly improve comfort and survival for outdoor cats navigating the elements.

    When I first started bringing her inside for bad weather she would mostly hide out, but after a few years she got more comfortable and would come out and climb on the bed and sometimes even snuggle up with me while I was sleeping.

    A month ago we had several spells of freezing weather so I brought her inside. Normally she would stay inside for a day or so after the weather improved, then either scratch at the back door or simply dart out when I opened it, but this time she showed no interest in going back out.

    I am so happy I'm able to give her a comfortable retirement. When Summer comes she may decide to be an indoor/outdoor cat, but regardless I will always make sure she is fed, has vet care, has shelter, and of course get lots of pets and love!

    OP Hippy_Lynne She was pretty happy outside, especially once we tamed her a little and she could get pets more frequently. We have flower beds and landings she could climb, as well as her "fancy water fountain" (the 8-ft diameter fountain out by the pool. But she's getting older and I think the cold gets to her. She used to climb to the third floor to catch sun in Winter, and I noticed this year she wasn't doing that. I still think she might want to go back out on sunny days once it warms up, bu

    OP Hippy_Lynne She is so pretty! The crazy thing is when she was younger she was almost completely black, she only had the orange spot on her head. As she aged it's almost like the black covering her tabby "wore off" and more of the colors came through.
